The Sudanese Public Opinion Monitoring Platform
The results of the Sudanese public opinion poll on popular choices for
the prime minister for the transitional period
From August 1
to August 10, 2022, the Sudanese Public Opinion Monitoring Platform launched a
survey to read public opinion trends about the public's preferred choice for
the premiership of the transitional period in the event of reaching a political
solution that ends the current coup situation.
The
questionnaire included a question about the age group, and geographical area of
each participant, in addition to presenting 14 proposed names (their order
appears randomly in the poll for each participant) in addition to the
possibility of suggesting other names. The options presented included: Abdullah
Hamdok, Mudawi Ibrahim, Yasser Arman, Siddiq Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, Al-Shafei
Khader, Al-Hadi Idris, Sedqi Kablo, Taha Ishaq Othman, Heba Muhammad Ali,
Yasser Abbas, Omar Al-Daqeer, Mubarak Ardol, Madani Abbas, Nasr Al-Din Abdel-Bari.
2243
participated in the survey, which was distributed electronically through the
use of Google Forms. Data was cleaned by removing responses that contained
incomprehensible writings that were not related to the context of the questions,
or contained spelling errors that made it difficult to understand the answer. The
cleaning also adopted the threshold of at least 4 to be included in the
statistical analysis. The threshold of 4 votes was chosen as it was lowest
number of votes obtained by one of the original options presented in the
questionnaire. After cleaning the information, the number of participants that was included in the statistical analysis was (2094).
The geographical distribution of the participants came with the majority of participants from Khartoum with 54.4%, then participants from outside Sudan with 18.58%, then the states of Central Sudan (Al-Jazeera, White Nile, Sennar) with 9.84%, then the states of Eastern Sudan with 4.35%, then the states of Northern Sudan (Northern, River Nile) ) by 4.06%, then Darfur states (North, Central, South, West, or East Darfur) with 3.96%, then Kordofan states (North, West and South Kordofan) with 3.63%, and finally the Blue Nile region with 1.15%.
The age distribution of the participants was as follows: Most of the participants from the age group 31 to 45 years were 43.31%, followed by the age group 18 to 30 years with a percentage of 23.93%, then 46 to 60 years at a percentage of 21.2% and finally the age group older than 60 years with a percentage of 11.56%.
25 candidates for the prime minister position won the threshold to enter the statistical analysis, led by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok with 66.78% of the votes, then Sudanese Congress Party Chairperson Omar Al-Digair with 6.69% of the votes, followed by El-Shafi`e Khider with 3.49% of the votes, them the leader in Umma Party, Sadiq al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, with 3.01% of the votes, and then former Minister of Justice Nasr al-Din Abdel Bari with 2.92% of the votes.
